Add your domain to ShopBase

Modified on: Thu, 25 Jul, 2019 at 3:18 PM

To connect your existing domain to ShopBase store, you need to point your A record to ShopBase's IP address (52.10.27.176) and your CNAME record to shops.shopbase.com.

Kindly follow our instruction videossetup guide below.

When you have finished adding the two records, it might take up to 48 hours for your domain provider to update, depending to each environment. To find out if the change has been updated or not, simply check here for A record and here for CNAME record.

B. Third-party domain providers

If your domain provider is one of the below, please follow the link to their instructions about how to connect domain and add necessary records:

If your domain provider doesn't belong here, check out our guide how to set up your A and CNAME records, or get help from the domain provider.

What to tell your third-party provider

Your domain provider is knowledgeable about the terms related to domains. When you contact them for support, you can tell them that you want to setup:

  • your main domain (your A record) to point to ShopBase's IP address, which is 52.10.27.176
  • your subdomains (your CNAME records) to point to shops.shopbase.com

Tips: If you want to set up email forwarding, then you can also tell your third-party provider that you want to use their email client (if they have one) and need to configure your MX records.

C. Add an existing domain to your ShopBase store

  1. From your ShopBase admin, go to Online Store > Domains.
  2. Click Connect a domain.
  3. Enter the domain that you want to connect (such as johndoestore.org)
  4. Click Next.

Next, you need to set up your existing domain to point to ShopBase.

D. Set up your existing domain to connect to ShopBase

You need to edit the following DNS settings:

  • Your A record points to ShopBase's IP address, which is 52.10.27.176

  • Your CNAME record points to shops.shopbase.com

Any change in these domain settings might affect other elements, such as email forwarding. Contact your domain provider to check if any changes affect your DNS settings.

Note

  • Only one A record can be related to your primary domain. If your domain already has an A record when you edit your DNS settings, remove the old A record.
  • If your domain is from Cloudflare.com, make sure you have turned off proxy and only use DNS when adding A and CNAME records.

Steps:

  1. Log in to your account on domain provider's website

  2. Find your DNS settings

  3. Edit the A record to point to ShopBase's IP address 52.10.27.176

The DNS settings may display differently between providers, so take a look at existing entries as a guide, or follow your provider's instructions. You need to:

    • enter or choose the @ symbol, or A record
    • enter Shopbase's IP address 52.10.27.176 as the IP address for the A record.
  4. Save the change.

  5. Find the CNAME record in your DNS settings.

  6. Change your www CNAME record to point to shops.shopbase.com. CNAME records must always point to a domain name, and not to an IP address.

  7. Save the CNAME Record.

Note

If your domain is from Cloudflare.com, please turn off proxy and only use DNS when adding CNAME record:

Now you need to verify your connection in ShopBase.

E. Verify your connection in ShopBase

Click Verify connection in your ShopBase admin to confirm the domain setup.

Note

Your domain might need up to 48 hours to update changes. Check here for A record and here for CNAME record to find out if the change has been updated globally or not.

If you have problems or need help to set up, you can reach out to us or your domain provider for assistance.

F. Connect a subdomain

A subdomain is the additional part (prefix) of your main domain. For example, in the URL store.johndoe.com, store is the subdomain. The most popular subdomain is www. You can use subdomains to organize your website and locate the information more easily.

Steps:

  1. Log in to your account on domain provider's website.

  2. Find your DNS settings.

  3. Find the CNAME record in your DNS settings.

  4. Change your subdomain CNAME record to point to shops.shopbase.com. For example, for subdomain store.johndoe.com, change your host value as prefix, and CNAME content as below:
  5. Save the CNAME Record.

  6. From your ShopBase admin, go to Online Store > Domains

  7. Click Connect a domain.

  8. Enter your subdomain in the text field (for example, store.johndoe.com).

  9. Click Next.

  10. Click Verify connection to confirm the domain setup.

Note
Your main domain will also be added automatically. If you want to connect the subdomain only and not the main domain, you can delete the main domain by clicking the delete icon next to it in the Manage domains section.

G. After adding your domain to ShopBase

After adding domain in ShopBase, you need to choose your primary domain (domain name that customers see in the address bar while browsing your online store).

You can also set up email forwarding from the domain after you've added it to ShopBase.
