Understand handles on ShopBase

A handle is the item's unique title in lowercase letters, dashes, and numbers in the URL for each page on the store. Most items in ShopBase (such as products, collections, blogs, articles, menus) have handles. Products handles, for example, are unique names for each product. The handle for a "Women's Snowboard" should be womens-snowboard, and the product's URL would be http://yourshop.onshopbase.com/products/womens-snowboard.

How handles are generated

A product with the title "Washing machine" will automatically receive the handle washing-machine. If there is already a product with the handle washing-machine, the new handle will have an increment. It means that, the new washing-machine handle will be changed to washing-machine_ExEX or washing-machine_scND

The handle also determines the URL of other objects on your store. The Frequently Asked Questions page has the frequently-asked-questions, and its link would be http://yourshop.onshopbase.com/products/frequently-asked-questions

Store design should have static handles to preserve the location and avoid broken links. Therefore, the handle won't be automatically updated after you have modified the page title. In case you'd want to update your handle, please insert the new one

You can also choose to redirect from the old URL to new one by checking the Create a URL redirect box. This option is only available when the old handle is not used for another product. For example, to direct to https://johndoe.com/products/washing-machine, there is no other product whose handle is washing-machine.
